Does Bryan Dozier's Food King Have a Contract With Montgomery County Schools?

Bryan Dozier is a sitting member of the Montgomery County Board of Education. He also owns Food King grocery stores in Troy, Biscoe, Ellerbe, and Rockingham, NC. We have received information that Food King may hold a vendor contract with the school system Dozier governs. Under NC General Statute § 14-234, a public official is prohibited from having a financial interest in contracts with the body they serve. We are investigating.

Steps Taken / Evidence
  • Public records request filed with MCS for all vendor contracts and purchase orders
  • NC Secretary of State business filings reviewed for Dozier-affiliated entities
  • NC DPI expenditure database being searched for Food King payments
Relevant Law: NC GS § 14-234 — Contracts with public officers or employees

Board Bypassed Licensed Black Administrator to Install Unlicensed White Administrator

On April 17, 2026, the MCS Board of Education voted 4-2 to install Wade Auman as interim superintendent. Auman does not hold a superintendent's license and required a special board resolution just to meet the minimum legal threshold. Dr. Jack Cagle, the district's Associate Superintendent for Administrative Services, holds a valid superintendent's license and has served MCS for years. He was not considered. The only two board members who voted No were the only two Black members on the board.

Steps Taken / Evidence
  • Board meeting minutes obtained and verified
  • NC GS § 115C-271 reviewed — confirms unlicensed appointment is null and void without State Board approval
  • November 2024 special-called meeting minutes reviewed — confirms this is the second resolution for Auman
  • State Board of Education approval still pending as of April 2026
Relevant Law: NC GS § 115C-271 — Selection by local board of education

Board Member Bryan Dozier Physically Assaulted Community Advocate After Board Meeting

On April 17, 2026, following the conclusion of the MCS board meeting, board member Bryan Dozier physically pushed community advocate and MoCo's Voice co-founder Sherri Allgood with his shoulder and stated 'I don't talk to fools.' Multiple witnesses were present. Ms. Allgood filed charges with the magistrate. This is the second confrontation involving Dozier and Ms. Allgood — the first occurred at the 2022 Montgomery County Democratic Party Candidate Forum, where Dozier confronted Ms. Allgood while she was speaking in front of a crowd.

Steps Taken / Evidence
  • Charges filed with the Montgomery County Magistrate — April 17, 2026
  • Multiple eyewitnesses present
  • Prior incident at 2022 Democratic Candidate Forum documented
Relevant Law: NC GS § 14-33 — Misdemeanor assault

Win Dozier Lawsuit Against Sherri Allgood — A Pattern of Legal Intimidation

In 2020, Win Dozier (brother of board member Bryan Dozier) filed a lawsuit against Sherri Allgood over a social media post about the Montgomery County Welcome Center. The case was dismissed in 2023 — two years after filing — without Ms. Allgood ever apologizing. We are investigating whether this lawsuit was part of a coordinated pattern of using legal action to silence community voices, and whether any public funds or resources were connected to the Welcome Center matter.

Steps Taken / Evidence
  • State court case records obtained
  • Federal court remand ruling reviewed (case closed June 2022)
  • Public records request pending for Welcome Center financial records
Relevant Law: NC GS § 132-1 — Public Records Law
