Our Mission

MoCo's Voice is a community accountability platform rooted in Montgomery County, North Carolina. We exist because every person in this county deserves honest, independent information — and because the institutions that are supposed to serve all of us do not always do so equally.

We were founded by a Montgomery County resident who has seen firsthand what happens when public officials operate without scrutiny, when the local press looks the other way, and when the people most affected by bad decisions have no platform to be heard. MoCo's Voice is the answer to that silence.

We believe that accountability is not a partisan issue. It is a community issue. Whether the matter involves education, local government, law enforcement, economic development, or civil rights, MoCo's Voice will be here to document it, report it, and give the community the tools to respond.

"Every person in Montgomery County deserves a voice and the opportunity to influence public decisions. MoCo's Voice exists to make that possible."

What We Do

We Watch

We attend public meetings, review public records, and monitor the decisions made by elected and appointed officials on behalf of this community.

We Report

We publish what we find — factually, fairly, and without fear. Every claim we make is grounded in public records, documented sources, or on-the-record statements.

We Amplify

We give community members the tools, the information, and the encouragement to engage with their local government and demand better.

MoCo's Voice covers local government meetings, school board decisions, public records, and the stories that the local newspaper has chosen not to tell. We also connect Montgomery County residents to state and national news that directly affects their lives — because what happens in Raleigh and Washington does not stay there.

Our Did You Know? section keeps the public informed about facts, rights, and resources that every Montgomery County resident deserves to know. Our Meeting Summaries translate public meeting proceedings into plain language so that every resident — not just those who can attend in person — can stay informed.

Our Standards

MoCo's Voice is an advocacy-driven journalism platform. We are transparent about that. We believe that the community of Montgomery County has been underserved by its institutions and its press, and we exist to help correct that imbalance.

At the same time, we hold ourselves to a clear standard: every factual claim we publish must be sourced, documented, or on the record. We distinguish clearly between what is known, what is alleged, and what is our editorial opinion. We seek responses from those we report on. We correct errors when they are brought to our attention.

We are not the local paper. We do not pretend to be neutral on questions of justice and accountability. But we are honest — and we will always tell you what we know, what we do not know, and how we know it.
